WHAT?
Meditation is a practice of focusing the mind on a particular sensation or thought, to train awareness and achieve a calm and stable state of waking rest. It’s a simple idea that is difficult to practice, and easier to do in groups!

Collective rest has radical agency in a culture characterised by individualism and incessant work. As transgender, gender diverse and queer people, we often feel a strong need for recuperation and collective accepting spaces away from cishetero expectations and norms. Feeling present and interconnected are profound and essential human experiences.

HOW?
– 10 minute introduction to the space and the practice.
– 20 minute guided meditation focussing on the senses.
– 10 minute group debrief.

The practice centres on gently giving attention to subtle bodily experiences such as breathing, temperature, weight and posture, and becoming aware of environmental sounds. This meditation group is not attached to any spiritual or religious tradition and welcomes TGD and queer people of all ages, backgrounds and belief systems.

WHO?
This meditation group is facilitated by Archie Barry (they/them), who was taught sensation focused meditation practices at primary school and has been practicing since. Archie is an artist and has worked with trans and queer communities in advocacy, youth work and voluntary roles, and has led guided meditations at workshops, festivals, schools and universities. The $10 fee for attending goes towards their living costs.
