About this event

Date and time

Fri., 6 May 2022 @ 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm AEST

Join Ben MacEllen (comedian, writer, public speaker and accidental activist) as he shares with us his experiences of story-telling and accidental activism as a transgender man from rural Victoria.

Ben is a memoirist, lyricist, actor, poet, and activist who has been writing stories, songs, poems and plays since he was little. He writes and speaks extensively about his experience as a transgender man which is also the focus of his memoir, A Cut Closer to Whole. He has produced and directed youth theatre in country Victoria, and written and recorded original songs on his album, Book of Dreams. He was a semi-finalist at the World Championship of Public Speaking in Chicago (2018). In his speaking engagements, both in person and in the media, he advocates for better understanding of LGBTIQ+ issues.

The Out & About SPARK Conversations series has been developed with Out & About Peer Support facilitators in association with Transgender Victoria and Switchboard Victoria, with financial assistance from the Victorian Government. SPARK is part of a broader strategy to improve the health and wellbeing of trans and gender diverse Victorians through revitalising TGD Peer Support, kinship and resilience across all of our intersections.
