NAT: LGBTQ Domestic and Family Violence Awareness Day

LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day was first held on 28 May 2020. The awareness day was formed in Australia to highlight domestic, family and intimate partner violence and abuse occurring in LGBTQ communities. It is now a global event recognised in 12 countries around the world.

The right to live a life free from violence and abuse is a person’s most basic human right, but for many LGBTQ people, this is not a reality.  1 in 2 LGBTQ people will experience domestic, family and intimate partner violence and abuse (DV) in their lifetime, yet victims remain largely invisible with incredibly low levels of reporting.
