MANA – a live music event that emphasises queerness, women and non-binary people and First Nations people in music

‘Mana’ means ‘spiritual power, empowerment, prestige’ to Pasifika peoples.

This event is taking place on land that belongs to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation! We stand in solidarity with this country’s First People and pay respects to the mana of Aboriginal elders. Sovereignty was never ceded and Aboriginal people are STILL facing the effects of colonisation in this 2017! Colonisation is NOT history- it is current. We pay respects to the land, waterways and people of the First Nations.

Curated and produced by Daisy Catterall under the mentorship of Bexx Djentuh (LISTEN), we’re handing the mic back to emerging musicians who are queer / femme / non-binary / First Peoples / Pasifika / people of colour to show us what mana looks like!

This event was produced through AMPLIFY, Darebin Music Feast’s new Event Producer Mentorship. A targeted professional development opportunity, AMPLIFY seeks to address inequality in the music industry by supporting and amplifying lesser heard voices. Each year, AMPLIFY will offer a targeted group of Darebin-based, early-career music event producers access to mentoring and the opportunity to program and produce a feature event as part of Darebin Music Feast. In 2017, AMPLIFY was open to early-career female, trans and/or gender non-conforming music event producers who live, work or study in the City of Darebin.
