The health and wellbeing of the LGBTIQ+ population in Victoria – Findings from the Victorian Population Health Survey 2017, has been released. The sample size of the survey was 34,000 respondents and data was collected from a randomly selected representative sample of the LGBTIQ+ population, which enabled measurement and reporting on the health status of that population. Queering the Map is an innovative online platform. People anonymously pin their experiences, memories and histories to an online global map, and each pin contains a unique micro-story of queerness. These are stories of the meaningful and mundane experiences of LGBTQI+ life. They form a living archive, collectively building new forms of community across the globe. A complex mapping of queer people’s experiences in Australia is emerging.
The LGBTIQ Legal Service has released a report based on a two year study into the legal needs of the Victorian LGBTIQ community. This article in Star Observer explores some of the findings from the report, including the fact that discrimination is the top legal issue and that there is a lack of confidence in local police stations to be of assistance to LGBTIQ victims of crime.
